CATHOLIC APOLOGETICS CONFERENCE TALKS

Session Four

WELCOME TO SESSION FOUR

Dr. Scott Hahn

The Greatest Catholic Apologetics Book (You've never heard of)

The mysteries of faith cannot be proven by reason. But reason, study, and apologetics CAN provide a rational justification for accepting and believing the mysteries of faith. In 1942, a work of Catholic apologetics was published that should have become a classic. Even in a generation that produced men like Frank Sheed, Ronald Knox, and Fulton Sheen, it stands out. Instead, the work of Fr. Joseph Clifford Fenton was largely forgotten. It is now back in print and more necessary than ever. Dr. Hahn will briefly introduce it and suggest some of the most important tools that modern apostles need to acquire and maintain to be effective witnesses to Christ and His Church in our own generation.

Bio: Dr. Scott Hahn is the Fr. Michael Scanlan Professor of Biblical Theology and the New Evangelization at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is the Founder and President of the St. Paul Center, an apostolate dedicated to teaching Catholics to read Scripture from the heart of the Church.
Dr. Hahn has been married to Kimberly for forty years. They have six kids and nineteen grandkids and two of their sons are currently in priestly formation with the Diocese of Steubenville.
The author and editor of over forty popular and academic books, Dr. Hahn’s works include best-selling titles Rome Sweet Home, The Lamb’s Supper, and Hail Holy Queen. His most recent release is titled Hope to Die: The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body.

"The God of the Bible is an Evil Maniac": A Response

In this presentation, we examine the common atheistic slogan, "The God of the Bible is an evil maniac." In particular, we will discuss how to respond to two charges frequently-cited in support of the "evil maniac" thesis: (1) God clearly commands genocide and (2) the Bible supports slavery. With an eye on the God of classical theism as well as the Catholic tradition of biblical interpretation, John will explain the key principles and specific facts you need to know to respond in conversation.

Bio: John DeRosa is a math teacher with a passion for studying apologetics, philosophy, and theology. He hosts the Classical Theism Podcast, a weekly show that helps others become more proficient in their defense of the Catholic Christian worldview. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Christine.
