Transgenderism's emphasis on the inner self separate from the body has paved the way for the transhumanist movement's quest for total liberation from the body through digital immortality. The talk will show how transhumanism is the logical development of the radical self-definition found in transgenderism. It will then address points of common ground and conflict between transhumanism and Catholicism. The presentation will equip Catholics to show transhumanists a better path to human perfection.

Bio: Fr. Michael Baggot was received into the Catholic Church on the Easter Vigil of 2003, after a high school conversation from agnosticism. Prior to entering the seminary, Baggot reported on prominent bioethical issues as a journalist. He spent his initial period of seminary formation near Cologne, Germany. He later worked as an assistant for the Curso de Hispanidad in Mexico City and as a teacher at Pinecrest Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, before returning to Rome for further studies. He has worked as the Correspondent of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights since 2011, during which time he has penned articles for the organization’s website and for the scholarly journal Studia Bioethica. In 2015, he began contributing to the journal of religion and public life First Things. In 2016, he began teaching in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum. In 2016-2017, he also acted as a tutor of the Sinderesi program that aids university students in the discernment of contemporary social issues. He has also served as an official tour guide of the Vatican Museum Art and Faith program. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Theology at the Christendom College in Rome program, Assistant Professor of Bioethics at Regina Apostolorum, and the Curriculum Coordinator of the Catholic Worldview Fellowship summer program for university students. In addition to prayer and study, he enjoys singing in the choir, playing basketball, and giving tours of the Eternal City.

Bio: Christopher West is a devoted husband and father of five. As President of the Theology of the Body Institute, he leads an international apostolate spreading St. John Paul II’s life-transforming teaching through graduate-level courses, on-site events and programs, clergy enrichment training, and an online global community dedicated to ongoing formation. Beyond serving as Professor of Theological Anthropology in the Institute’s jointly sponsored M.A. program with Pontifex University, Dr. West has served on the faculties of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver; the Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha; the St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission in Canada; and as a visiting professor of the John Paul II Institute in Australia. West is the author of more than a dozen best-selling books and numerous video and audio programs. He co-hosts the popular podcast Ask Christopher West with his wife Wendy, and his work has been featured in The New York Times, on ABC News, Fox News, MSNBC, and in countless Catholic and Evangelical media outlets.
